Where Did My Perfume Go?

Where Did My Perfume Go?

So has this ever happened to you? You get dressed, you look great, you put on your favorite scent, you go out the door into your day and a few hours later you can barely smell your fragrance. So your solution to this problem is to get a stronger smelling fragrance.

Why Can't I Smell My Perfume?

You start looking in the market for stronger perfumes asking friends, family and turning to Google. Reading reviews, Eau de Parfum versus Eau de Toilette, premium versus budget friendly and so on. The thing is, there are a few factors why your perfume isn’t lasting longer. One of them starts from the moment we put on our jewelry. Anything metal-based (from our earrings, necklaces, wrist watches to bracelets) could slightly alter the scent due to the compounds mixing with the notes. I’m getting ahead of myself here, as that’s only a slight change in the scent which is barely noticeable. Other factors, like not having properly moisturized skin, could also hinder the longevity of your perfume.

Did You Know Your Mind Plays A Role?

To solve this mystery, we are going to travel back in time. All the way back to our ancestors, early man. That’s right! That far back in time. Imagine living then and your only concern was to survive each day. Therefore, whenever you left your cave you had to be aware of your surroundings. The early men had to do just that. Whenever they were out and about hunting for the day their sense of smell heightened in order for them to smell any predators lurking around. Their sense of smell protected them from eminent danger by "tuning out" their own body odor.

To give you a better understanding, you’re sitting in a restaurant and there’s loud music and conversation all around you. You’re trying to hear the conversation right next to you at your table. In order to do this, you tune out the noise around you and only focus on the conversation at your table. The music and conversation in the restaurant are still there, but you’ve completely tuned it out in order to hear what you are focusing on. That’s how your sense of smell works! You may not be able to smell your own scent all the time, but other people around you still can.

Don't Count Your Fragrance Out Just Yet!

So before giving up on that new fragrance you just bought, just because you don't smell it doesn't mean others around you can't!
